We are a Boy Scout Troop in Shawnee, Kansas and have Scouts from a variety of Shawnee Mission and Desoto Schools, including Shawnee Mission Northwest, Trailridge, Rhein Benninghoven, Nieman, Desoto High School just to name a few and we also have several Scouts who are home schooled.
We meet most Tuesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at Hope Lutheran Church (Quivira & Shawnee Mission Parkway) .
Troop 358 is "extracurricular friendly". We believe that boys should grow into well-rounded young men. We support scouts that are also involved in sports, drama, music, etc.
Our Troop has been serving the community for over 25 years, during this time we have had a high retention rate and most boys go on to earn the coveted Eagle Scout rank.
We're a boy led troop focused on exceptional outdoor experiences, building tomorrow's leaders, and having fun!
Being a boy led troop means the boys make most of the decisions on how they want the troop to run, what activities they will participate in and most importantly learning from those decisions they made. Adults still play a key role in the boy led process, but it is more of a mentoring role then a leading role.. Besides being mentors for the boys the adults also serve to make sure that all activities are conducted in a safe manner in adherence to the Boy Scouts of America guidelines. community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.
Troop 358 has a weekend camping experience once a month. Here are some places we've visited:
In 2017, the members of Troop 358 performed over 1,100 hours of community service. Here are some of our service projects:
